Program description

  • 5229 - Diploma of Vocational Studies IT Support
  • The 5229 program is 1800 hours long;
  • Training is offered during the day or in the evening;

Program objectives

Develop the skills that are essential for working in this field, such as a problem-solving method, an information retrieval method and a time management method. Skills related to the optimal use of software are also taught: taking advantage of the possibilities of operating systems with old and advanced technologies, taking advantage of application software and telecommunications resources, creating and using a database. Develop skills related to workplace communication and customer service such as: interacting in different professional situations, communicating in English, providing customer assistance from a call centre. Finally, develop the skills necessary to carry out tasks on autonomous or network-connected computers: analyze the architecture and functioning of computer systems, develop a utility program, install the physical and logical elements of a computer, manage access to network resources, set up network shareable resources, restore the functioning of a computer, maximize a computer's efficiency.

Admission requirements

To be admitted to the DEP/DVS computer support program, you must meet one of the following conditions:

The applicant holds a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent (e.g. attestation of academic equivalency) or a graduate diploma, such as a college diploma or a bachelor's degree.

Or

The applicant is at least 16 years of age on September 30 of the school year in which he or she begins training and has obtained Secondary IV credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in study programs established by the Minister or has completed a teaching program recognized as equivalent.

Or

The applicant is at least 18 years old at the time of the training and possesses the prerequisites, namely the successful completion of the general development test as well as the specific prerequisites for the DEP/DVS IT support program, that is language of instruction

Or

The person has obtained Secondary III credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in study programs established by the Minister and will continue his or her general education simultaneously with his or her vocational training to obtain the Secondary IV credits that are lacking in language of instruction and mathematics in study programs established by the Minister. In this case, we will have the student sign an agreement. In the event of non-compliance with the agreement mentioned below within the first 12 months of the training, we will be obliged to interrupt the professional training until the student satisfies the prescribed conditions.
